about

poem and music: Brian Routh

lyrics

tangled in a web
lost in strands
their ways so fine
taking me through
so many
strange places
marching
looking
waving
singing
trailing
failing

alone
in a house
with the Ghost

he has left
confused
puzzled
saddened
from fighting
hopeless situations

window open
rapping
rapping
excited wind
blowing
running wild
not knowing
where to turn
caught
in classical noise
noise that ends
at the waters’ edge
where mighty seas begin
waves crash
bash
smash
thrash
splash

a sharp explosion
ovation
loud
wild
dumb cheers
blind tears
jeers
yells
screams
In false glory

ice flows
rivers freeze
birds fly free
beauty is everywhere

children being born
blind
without brains
people rush
to die
to buy
to consume
to consume
all consuming
the frantic need
to be lost
to be asleep
to be sheep
to be dead
to shut out culture

interesting people
fall away
are trampled
by the mass
of ignorance
of stupidity
of greed

the ghost
lives invisible
in solitude
shelter
from the world
of violence
of corruption
of blindness

fat, greedy people
rule the world

dead people walk
fast asleep
their senses dumb
their feelings numb
their taste buds
screaming
for more
and more
and more

the ghost
lives invisible
the vulgar
roar and scream
of humanity
shut out his music
blindness
from obsessive greed
prevent us
from seeing him
over saturation
of taste buds
block the sweet taste
smells of stagnation
block the fragrance

the ghost of life
lives
within us
within our hearts
within our minds
if only
we could see
if only
we could see

the ghost of life
lives
within us
within our hearts
within our minds
if only
we could see
if only
we could see

the ghost of life
lives
within us
within our hearts
within our minds
if only
we could see
if only
we could see
